I sounded Henry out a few weeks ago about selling or giving away the play kitchen but keeping the food. He said that was alright.
Today, I got around to cleaning it out and giving it a good dusting, in preparation for finding it a new home.
Tonight, as Henry was sleepy on the sofa and looking at it, he said simply, "I would miss my microwave."
The way he said that. I don't know if I can go through with this.
UPDATE: the next morning we talked again. Henry was OK with getting rid of it, and I promised to create a most excellent cardboard box microwave if he needs it. The kitchen was sold within two minutes flat after being posted to my Facebook buy/sell/trade group.
So funny. My friend said that she was going to get rid of the play set and get a small plastic microwave like we have from Toys R Us. My son loves the microwave but the rest of the kitchen is used only for storage :) No reason not to wait a little bit or see if there is a microwave out there for him!!
